Dunes Cyanolumens A cyanotype lumen print is a unique photographic print created using the cyanotype process, which involves exposing objects or negatives onto light-sensitive paper coated with a mixture of iron compounds. The term "lumen" refers to the use of natural light rather than a traditional darkroom setup for exposure. One hot day in July, the 4th to be exact, I grabbed a medium format camera and set out into Nordhouse Dunes for about six hours to make some images. Capturing the breathtaking views of rolling sand dunes offers a unique and nostalgic experience. The slow, deliberate process of setting up each shot, adjusting settings manually, and waiting for the perfect lighting creates a sense of anticipation and mindfulness. As I trekked through the shifting sands, every click of the camera shutter freezes a moment in time, ensuring that the raw beauty of the dunes will be preserved in analog form. The film developed at home, scanned and reprinted as a digital negative is placed on pre-coated darkroom paper.
