“The world is blue at its edges and in its depths...For many years, I have been moved by the blue at the far edge of what can be seen, that color of horizons, of remote mountain ranges, of anything far away. The color of that distance is the color of an emotion, the color of solitude and of desire, the color of there seen from here, the color of where you are not. And the color of where you can never go. For the blue is not in the place those miles away at the horizon...Blue is the color of longing for the distances you never arrive in, for the blue world.”
Light of Life In a thought-provoking journey created through the cyanotype process, I delve into the intricate themes of women being conditioned to be overly nice (a pleaser of the people), the profound emotions of heartbreak, and the burdensome yet effortless role of being the light in everyone's life. Through the ethereal blue hues characteristic of cyanotype, the images evoke a sense of melancholy and introspection, inviting viewers to contemplate the toll they take on ones emotional well-being. Each piece serves as a visual narrative, capturing the complexities of navigating relationships- with myself as well as dealing with heartache, and the often unacknowledged emotional labor that women are expected to exude incessantly. This work challenges traditional perceptions and prompts reflection on the quiet strength and vulnerability that coexist within the feminine experience. I am a protector of my own light.
